Harold W. Dahn

Died October 20, 2018

Harold W. Dahn, age 85, of Gladstone passed away peacefully at his home, with family by his side, on Saturday, October 20, 2018, following a short battle with metastatic cancer.

Harold was born on 1st/12/1933 in Escanaba. He was the only son of Harvey and Victoria (LaRose) Dahn. In his early years he was raised in Cornell and later moved to Escanaba’s “North Town”. Shortly after graduation, Harold was drafted into the United States Army. He served in France and Belgium from 1953-1955 when he was discharged.

On August 1, 1959 he married the former Mary Jo Pinar and together they had two children, Carol Ann and Gary Anthony. They made their home in Pine Haven Subdivision. Harold began working at Mead Paper in January of 1960 where he worked as a color plant operator until he retired in October of 1996.

In his free time Harold enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, attending church, spending time with family and Tuesday card day at the Gladstone Senior Center. He was on avid Detroit sports fan.

Harold was known for his selflessness, compassion, love and kindness. He was always willing to lend a helping hand even if you were a stranger. He was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba, where he’d volunteer every chance he had to work in the kitchen for luncheons.

Harold is survived by two children, Carol Maki of Gladstone and Gary (Laura) Dahn of Wells; four grandchildren, Jessica Heitman, Jennifer (Eric) Moran, Corey (Kendra) Dahn and Morgan Dahn; six great grandchildren, Carter, Aiden, Aubriana, Quinten, Aaryk and Josie; brother-in-law, Robert Gendron; niece Barb and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo, his parents and his sister, Dorothy.

Harold’s family would like to send a special thanks to St. Anne’s, his church family with whom he spent a great deal of time with. To the staff and family like atmosphere of the Gladstone Senior Center, for our beloved dad, papa, husband, brother and uncle. The friends he made there over the years have been nothing short of amazing, you were his “chums”. Bay Area Medical for their amazing staff and extreme dedication with their help we were able to get him home to rest. Father Jamie Ziminski of All Saints for making a special trip. Lastly to everyone who took the time to stop call or text during this time and to everyone who made sure the family had everything they needed so they could stay by his side . Thank you!
