Stonington, MIGerald M. Wils, 83, of Stonington, passed away Tuesday evening, December 27, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald was born April 26, 1933, in Escanaba, the son of Andrew and Lyda (Bennett) Wils. He was a 1951 Rapid River High School graduate. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1955.
On March 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Esther Leadman. Together they made their home in Stonington on a small farm where they raised 6 daughters. Gerald was an electrician and an all around handy man to many.
Gerald was a member of St. Charles Catholic church in Rapid River and the Rapid River American Legion. Gerald was known for his hardy laughter and big appetite for life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and listening to music. Gerald had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

2 Sisters: Pat (Tom) Way of Wells, MI
Helen Clouser of Gladstone, MI
16 Grandchildren: Mark Jr. (Toni) Raspor, Nathan (Katie) Raspor, Marty (Trisha) Raspor, Matthew Cass, Mitchell Cass, Tara (Greg) Siolka, Sarah Heatley, Michael Heatley, Nikki (Sam) Gustafson, Dylan (Holly) Coppock, Ryan Coppock, Sean (Olga) Parham, Cody Parham, Andy (Anna) Demeuse, Allen (Kym) Demeuse, Adam (Megan) Demeuse
And 19 Great Grandchildren

In addition to his Wife, Esther (Leadman) Wils, Gerald was preceded in death by:
4 Brothers: Everett, Lawrence, Bernard, and James Wils
1 Sister: Theresa Wils
1 Son-In-Law: Mike Heatley

Gerald’s family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented by the Rapid River American Legion and will begin at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be at 6:00 PM at St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Gerald will be laid to rest in Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington, Spring of 2017.
