Genevieve E. Smoot, age 92, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.
Genevieve was born August 10, 1926 in Gladstone, the daughter of Olaf and Anna (Wahl) Augustson, she was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School. She attended cosmetology school in Iron Mountain and while there she met her future husband, Jesse Smoot. They were united in marriage on August 30, 1947. She was a member of the United Evangelical Covenant in Gladstone and the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 Auxiliary. She was a hairdresser and enjoyed making banana bread and giving it away to her family and friends and going to the Gladstone yacht Club, where she was a member for many years.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Wayne Smoot of Bark River, Terry (Tammy) Smoot of Bay city, MI and Pam (Peter) Lake of Gladstone; grandchildren, Sherry Smoot, Wayne Smoot, Jayme Novak, Michelle Lake, Tracy Lake, Duston Smoot, Juston Smoot and Tiffany (Kendall) Kimmel; great grandchildren, David and Robert Robitaille, Jesse Ray, Morgan Smoot, Brock Mercier, Ashley Vizineau, Kameron and Kielee Kimmel, great great grandchildren, Piper and Porscha and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Carroll “Augie” Augustson and her sister, Dolores Augustson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 14 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM with Pastor Aaron Anderson officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Gladstone Yacht Club.

I remember Genevieve and Jesse fondly. My childhood memories of being at your home during the holidays Gen was always kind and loved her family and friends very much. She will be missed dearly. God Bless you at this trying time.
