Genevieve Lorraine “Gen” Pierce, 97, of Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, (formerly of Gladstone) passed away Saturday evening September 2, 2017 at the Bishop Noa Home where she currently was residing.

Gen was born August 20, 1920 in Escanaba, MI the daughter of David and Ethel Marie (Orvis) LaBumbard. She was raised in Gladstone and she attended All Saints Catholic School and Gladstone High School. Gen was united in marriage to Kenneth Pierce on July 3, 1931 and they were married for 67 years. Ken passed away in 1998.

Gen was a loving and devoted mother to daughters Margaret Jean and Sandra Lee. She was a very talented seamstress for family, friends, brides to be and was employed at Lewis’s Dress Shop. Her mom taught her how to sew as a young girl. She began working at the old Garment Factory, working her way up to manager and teacher. She also worked at Kressges, Five & Dime, and Ben Franklin stores.

Gen was a very active member of the All Saints Catholic Church and the Gladstone Yacht Club. She loved crafts and ceramics and was very creative. She learned how to upholster furniture so there was no need to buy new. She volunteered her time teaching knitting to the Girl Scouts.

Gen always liked to have fun and she had a good sense of humor. She and husband Ken could dance the night away. People used to stand aside to watch them glide across the dance floor. Other fun events were playing cards, bowling, darts, pool, entertaining friends, vacations with family, picnics and putting puzzles together were family fun times.

Gen was an excellent cook and she especially liked to bake. She was famous for her homemade noodles, lemon pie, and carrot cake.

Daughter: Sandra L. (Larry) Carlson of Rapid River

Son-in-law: John E. (Dianna) Greene of Littleton, CO

4 grandchildren:
Karen (Jeff) Greene (Swanson) of Oregon, John Greene of Florida, Eric (DeAnne) Carlson of Colorado and Scott Carlson of Alabama

3 great grandchildren: Hunter, Jacob and Emma Carlson, all of Colorado

7 nieces and nephews: Patricia (Hoskins) Klemmer, Vicky (Drumb) Warren, Tanya (Drumb) Carter, Kyle Tagge, Ken Tagge, and Daid Tagge.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Kenneth L. Pierce in 1997, daughter, Margaret J. Greene in 2012, grandson, Christopher Carlson in 1966, sisters, Majorie Wills, Lucille Drumb, Alzetta Tagge, Luella Roberts, nephews, Richard Nelson, Lorin Nelson, Roger Drumb, Allan Hoskins, and niece Faye (Hoskins) Hackett preceded Gen in death.

Gen’s family will receive friends on Friday September 8, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Genevieve L. Pierce will follow at 5:30 PM at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Gen will be laid to rest next to her husband Kenneth at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Memorial contributions in memory of Gen may be directed to the Salvation Army or to St. Vincent DePaul.
