Frank Grant LaPine

Resided in Escanaba, MI
Died February 18, 2019

Frank Grant LaPine, born on Mackinac island on December 23, 1942, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Feb 18, 2019, after a brief illness.

Frank left the island to serve in the United States Army and was stationed at Rhein Mein Army base, in Germany, where he served with distinction as a supply sergeant. He returned to the Upper Peninsula and attended Northern Michigan University to study accounting before marrying and starting a family.

Frank was an avid fisherman and sportsman who enjoyed sharing that part of his life with his boys and others over the years. In his later years he enjoyed spending his winters golfing in Florida and summers in the U.P. fishing for walleye. His final years were spent with the love of his life Sheila who he had reconnected with and married after a long time apart. He cherished his time with Sheila and her children and grandchildren.

Frank was a great father and grandfather for his family and a friendly soul to all he encountered. He was ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone and always had an infectious smile and a silly joke or gesture to brighten someone’s day. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Sheila, Frank is survived by his two sons, Steven and Armand LaPine and granddaughter Anne Monet LaPine.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings.

A family gathering to celebrate the life of Frank LaPine will be scheduled at the convenience of his family. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

April 14, 1966 Frank and I married, we had two sons, Steven Grant LaPine May 15, 1968 who served and retired from the Air force. He lives In Utah and has one daughter Monet. We lost two babies and had another son Armand Danial LaPine June 13, 1978.. Frank had a hard time keeping jobs so we moved many times. He was not publicly who he was in private. Social skills were lacking so I bought him golf clubs and he learned fast how to play. We spent many hours fishing the Ford River, and camping. We built our house with the help of his brother Walter, and others. I spent much time rabbit hunting with Walt, and for them to all die at once was very sad. He never really spent enough time with his sons, and his oldest son Mike Slade LaPine, left home after graduation in 1981. Frank had two twin Grandaughters, Mia and Giana, and one adult Grandchild Monet LaPine.

I miss my wild and crazy Uncle Franky. I often think of him, my dad John Walter and Uncle Delbert. I do my best everyday. I am very proud to be a LaPine.
