Died October 30, 2017

Edwina Z. Hanrahan passed away on Monday October 30, 2017 at 103 years of age. She was born in Menominee, Michigan October 9, 1914 of parents Michael and Grace Harkins Zettel. She is preceded in death by her late husband William P. Hanrahan, and survived by sons William (Barbara) Hanrahan and Ned (Sandra) Hanrahan and daughters Grace (Dean) Eberhardt and Edwina Dempsey, and six grandchildren. Michael, Kurt, and Ryan Eberhardt, William and Gregg Hanrahan, and Jody Trujillo, along with ten great grandchildren.
Eddie, as everyone came to know her, grew up in Cedar River, Michigan and later moved to Escanaba, Michigan, where she married and raised her family. She and her husband owned the Hanrahan Grocery on Ludington Street in Escanaba. After William’s unexpected death in 1944, she worked as a teller at Escanaba National Bank until retirement. Eddie raised her four children on her own in a loving family environment, with frequent trips to Cedar River, Green Bay and Milwaukee for shopping and family visits. In 2001 she moved to Dayton, Ohio to be close to family members. Eddie will be missed but lovingly remembered by family, friends, and everyone who came to know her. After all, she was a U-Pee-Ur, as she liked to say, since she was from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Memorial services will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Edwina will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Edwina’s name may be directed to the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba.

Eddie was such a sweet woman. She always knew how to brighten up a room and she made everyone she came across feel like family. Prayers to her surviving family and friends.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet! May her memory be as a blessing for all who knew her!
Gregg & Marci, So sorry for your loss….

Your mother was a wonderful lady and I truly enjoyed knowing her. She lived to such an impressive age, but I am not surprised. She always had such energy for life. I wish I’d had the chance to tell her I went to work for her old employer, Northern Michigan Bank. There are still a couple people here who worked with her!
