Perkins, MIDonald G. Depuydt, 89, of Perkins, passed away Thursday afternoon December 22, 2016 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.
Beverly M. “Bev” Depuydt, 90, of Perkins, passed away Wednesday December 28, 2016 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Donald was born January 7, 1927 in Escanaba the son of Girard and Violet (Kinnunen) Depuydt. He was raised in St. Nicholas and Perkins and he graduated from Perkins High School in 1945. Following graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1945 until the end of the war in 1946. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Perkins where he worked at his father’s service station, Depuydt’s Service Station in Perkins. He later worked for his father’s construction company before being hired at Mead Paper Company in 1963. Don retired from Mead in 1991 following 28 years of employment.

Donald was united in marriage to the former Beverly Carlson on September 4, 1947 and they made their home in Perkins where they raised their 7 children. Don was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Perkins American Legion. His hobbies included golfing, bowling and tending to his yard. Don loved spending time with his family and he was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Tiger fan.

Beverly was born February 15, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Ernest and Bertha (LeBresh) Carlson. She was raised in Perkins where she was a 1944 graduate of Perkins High School. While at Perkins High, she participated in basketball. Bev worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Gibb’s Company in Perkins.

Bev was a very active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where she taught CCD for many years. She was a member of the Perkins American Legion Auxiliary and she enjoyed bowling and golfing. She treasured spending time with her family and friends. Her family fondly remembers her for giving the best hugs. She was also an excellent baker and cook.

Bev’s Brother: John (Karen) Carlson of Perkins, MI

20 grandchildren, 30.5 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, Marjorie (Donald) Rhoades of AZ and John Depuydt of CA, also survive.

In addition to Don’s parents, his brothers, Kenneth and Richard, daughter-in-law, Jan Depuydt in 2008, preceded Don in death.

In addition to Bev’s parents, her brother Keith (Mimi) Carlson preceded Bev in death.

Don and Bev’s family will receive friends on Monday January 2, 2017 from 2:30 to 5:15 pm at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites conducted by the Perkins American Legion will follow at 5:15 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo and Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Spring at the Perkins Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Donald and Beverly may be directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established at a later date.
