Our acquaintance goes all the way back to the 60’s when he lived with his Maternal Grandparents on North 14th Street, right next to our house. He would always be seen fighting with his brother Brent. They also had a younger sister we called Kimmy Kay. My Mom was good friends with his Grandmother. It wasn’t until years later, when he was sitting in the lobby of the Harbor Tower, where he had just moved into, that a man sitting there, whom I did not recognize, said hello to me. It was Barry. And like everyone, he had grown and changed in many ways. I later found him working as a Senior Companion at Christian Park Center, when I stopped to visit my friend Loretta. This was before I became one. He was battling something at the time. When I became a Senior Companion, I worked beside him. He guided me as I learned the job. Every now and then he took time off as he battled what he was battling. Next I knew he was a resident there. Recovering from something he was going through. I would visit him there. The last time I talked to him, about a month ago or so. I came up to him and he turned to me and said, “You should move in here too, and we can have a party.” His battle is over, and he is the Heavenly place, with all those who went before him. But he shall be remembered as a guiding hand in my role as a Senior Companion. Thank you Barry!
